Happiness and Loneliness (Song)
I wrote a song today. From the moment I woke until 5.30pm I hammered it out and it was bloody hard. Tears. Anger. Wanting to quit. At 9pm I went to The Smack in Whistable and performed it at their open mic night.
I’m a gig whore who performs only covers and it’s been so long since I just got out and performed a song of my own. And on a guitar - not my forte. It was scary but I’m really happy I did it. And lonely.
Happiness and Loneliness by Em Peasgood
Verse 1
Yesterday I defrosted my freezer, spent time in the garden, and got my bike fixed for free -
Based on my feminine wiles and massive hooters
Verse 2
Took a two hour bike ride where someone yelled “nice arse!” at me
Went to the deli for my vegan groceries
Cleaned out my fridge, drank tea in the garden with friends
Pre Chorus
And I’m writing this song so I can try to explain
That happiness and loneliness to me are the same
And I ache to the core because I try to forget
That I’m lonely
Chorus
So taste the taste that’s in my mouth
And put your arms around me
Look at me with love in your face
Tell me you’ve found me
Verse 3
Scared of trusting people, cats and dogs are a different matter
If only I was psychic then that would solve the problem
But my instincts tell me to be wary and I lose my words
Verse 4
I think I’m stronger, just a little bit emotional
My friend he held me, he knew that I needed it
It was tight and shaky and lovely and the lump in my throat sank
And I held it in
Pre Chorus
And I’m writing this song so I can try to explain
That loneliness and happiness to me are the same
And I ache to the core because I try to forget
That I’m lonely
Chorus
So taste the taste that’s in my mouth
And put your arms around me
Look at me with love in your face
And I might make you a nice cup of tea
So taste the taste that’s in my mouth
And put your arms around me
Look at me with love in your face
Tell me you’ve found me
